In the liner notes for my new CD, I make the following statement about the title track: “Six Minutes After Seven draws from the apocalyptic images in the Book of Revelation.” I think the idea for the song is best illustrated in the lyrics of the fourth verse:
“The scroll will lose the seventh seal The seventh horn will blow The seventh woe will pour Out from the seventh bowl A seven headed dragon Wearing seven crowns Will intimidate a pregnant woman And smash up the town Angels will defend her honor A war will start in heaven And troubles spread upon the earth At six minutes after seven”
This was the first verse that I wrote for the song. I think it brings together the most iconic images in the Book of Revelation. I was tempted to stop with that verse but I knew there were so many other rich topics in the book that I couldn’t stop there.
In the last two verses I attempted to address my understanding of this scripture. I think it differs from what I understand is the “normal” interpretation of the Book of Revelation. I invite you to look at the lyrics and share your thoughts with me through the contact me section of my homepage or you can email me at artwheeler@artwheelermusic.net.
When I was putting together my latest CD, Six Minutes After Seven wasn’t even on the list of songs I was considering to include. I wanted to save it for a later CD. The lineup changed several times. As soon as I decided to include this song, I knew I wanted to use the title of the song as the title of the album too. I thought the image of the clock would work well in the artwork.
I had the idea for the music video during the production of the CD. When I wrote the song, I wanted to do something with the same feel as Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues”. I thought a video like his would help draw he parallels between the songs. My youngest daughter has been doing drawings recently and I thought she could do some for the cards in the video. I realize that I don’t look as cool as Dylan and we could show the drawings better if it was just them. We shared ideas and I think she did a really good job of interpreting the song.
Still wondering about the significance of the title? Send me an email and I’ll explain…
