I wanted to try something new with my video for Wrestle With the Angels. If you have watched it, you will see that I am singing the song in front of a television that is shows a professional wrestling program. You might notice that the video on the television looks like it is sped up. My movements might also seem a little odd.
You might think that I just filmed myself in front of a television with the program on the screen running a double-time. That is not what I did. I took a recording of the song and slowed it down to half speed. I decided to lip-sync to that recording audio and film at regular speed. I would playback the video at double speed and sync that with a normal recording of the song. Before I settled on wrestling videos to play in the background, I tried a couple of other settings for the background. I tried a busy intersection with cars as a backdrop but the intersection that I picked wasn’t busy enough. At the speed I was filming, the cars didn’t move fast enough to look good. I also tried filming at the entrance of a local grocery store but I picked a time when absolutely no one was going shopping. I settled on the professional wrestling idea because it went with the theme of the song. There are enough moments in the wrestling action in the background that looks good when playing back faster. And hopefully I wiggle my eyebrows and look off to the side enough that you can tell that something wasn’t normal with the filming.
