In my previous posts, I talked about singing with my cousin Sammy and that he was an outstanding singer. He won the youth talent contest at the Mid-South Fair in Memphis one year singing How Great Thou Art. Because he won this contest, he got to travel to New York City and perform on a television show called the Ted Mack Amateur Hour.
I don’t remember how young I was when this happened. I remember him bringing me a souvenir from his trip. I was young enough at the time that I didn’t understand how television shows worked. I remember watching him singing on TV. Almost immediately when he was through singing, he came running through the back door of our house. I didn’t understand how he had gotten from New York to our house that fast. It was then that I was first exposed to the idea of pre-recorded television shows.
Thank you, Arthur. I appreciate you so much. At my age it’s nice to look back on my singing youth days. I have been singing so long. Solo and different groups over the years, but I will always remember how you and I had such great times singing together. Love you Arthur.
