Sometimes it seems like I’ve had this guitar forever. You know how it is, sometimes something happens and you remember the circumstances around how you acquired something. Something that happened yesterday reminded me of the things that happened when I was purchasing this guitar. Because the things that happened are related to my latest CD project I thought now would be a great time to share them with you.
When I started looking for guitars, I wanted something that had a classic instrument look but didn’t look like every other guitar. I went to music stores and played a lot of guitars. I spent a lot of time on line looking at reviews. I also had in mind how much I would like to spend. At the time, i didn’t really have a guitar that I felt comfortable with. There was a low-end classical guitar in the house and a small, cheap acoustic that wouldn’t stay in tune. I had started playing the cheap guitar that wouldn’t stay in tune more often. And I had some ideas for songs that I wanted to write that I thought would work better on guitar. It was time to up my game and get a better guitar.
My research took me to Ibanez guitars, specifically the AEF30E model. And I really liked the finish that they called “Vintage Violin”. When I went to a local store that carried this brand, they had the guitar in stock but not with the finish that I wanted. So they special ordered it. The store was about an hour drive from my house so another special trip would be required to pick the guitar up. In about a week, they had received the guitar an I made my trip. When I got there, the guitar was still in the box. The salesman reached in and pulled out a purple guitar. I immediately said, “that’s not my guitar”. They looked up the order and the salesman had accidentally picked the model with a “VS” at the end which stood for violet sunburst instead of “VV” for vintage violin. The people at the store wanted to correct the issue quickly but didn’t have the right one in stock. They were nice enough to send me home with the purple guitar until mine came in.
This came to mind yesterday when I received proofs for the artwork for my new CD. There was an excessive amount of purple in the artwork which doesn’t really work for this project. So the proofs have not been approved and I don’t think you’ll be seeing the purple CD cover. At least not on the official release.
