Guidance from Don and John

After I started writing a few songs, I had a chance to play some of them for a couple of friends who were professional musicians. Don is a professional piano player who has accompanied many well-known artists.  He was also one of my mom’s piano students when he was first getting his start.  He suggested to me that I might consider recording some of my songs.  It was relatively easy to do without much investment.  I had played around with some home recording before and had been happy with the results.  But I knew there were many advancements that had been made in the years since with digital recording and I thought it might be worth looking at.

John was another professional musician who entered my life around that time.  He was a former rock singer turned youth pastor on his way to becoming an ordained minister.  His stop in his career at our church got every young boy and a few adults into wanting a guitar, me included.  He heard some of the songs that I had written at the time and gave me encouragement like what Don had given me.  I respected both guys and felt they would be honest with me.  They would not push me in the direction of recording if they didn’t think I had something worth sharing.  Based on this encouragement, I invested in some inexpensive recording equipment and started learning how to put music together that way.  I was happy enough with the results to share it with the world.  I have used that equipment to do all the songs that I have released to this point.  I hope you think it’s been worth it.
