God Is Light

God is light
In him there is no darkness
God is light
No darkness at all
God is light
In him there is no darkness
In him there is no darkness at all

If we walk in the light
We have fellowship with one another
As he is in the light
With our sister and our brother
If we walk in the light
The blood of Jesus
The Son of God will cleanse us from all sin

If we confess our sins
The one who is just and faithful
Will forgive our sins
Forgive them one and all
If we confess our sins
He’ll forgive our sins
And cleanse us from all unrighteousness

Loser

I’m a loser
Lost in sin
I’m a loser
I never win
I’m a loser
I’m losin’ again

I was a leper down in Galilee
A leper who was leprous as a leper can be
Jesus came to me and nine other guys
Healed our skin in the blink of an eye
Me and 8 others ran off on vacation
The other went back, said thanks and got salvation
We thought we’d won when he cleaned our skin
But the other went back and he washed away his sin

You know me, I am a Pharisee
I’m about as holy as a man can be
Jesus came around with twelve other guys
Breakin’ every law right before our eyes
Healin’ on the Sabbath, pickin’ corn too
Eatin’ with all kinds of folks, some not even Jews
Tax collectors, prostitutes, the weird and the odd
But worst of all he claims to be the son of God
We took care of him; we showed him who’s boss
When we nailed that Jesus up on that cross
When we sealed him in a tomb, we thought we had a win
But three days later he rose again

Here I am, I’m a modern man
I go to church whenever I can
Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night too
I even go on Saturday just to see what they do
I give lots of money, I’m on every committee
I sing in the choir although I don’t sing too pretty
But here’s my secret that I think you should know
I’ve got hatred for my brother that I can’t let go
Hatred for my brother that I can’t let go
Hatred for my brother that I won’t let go
I won’t let go
I can’t let go
I hold on to.

Water Into Wine

I’ve heard about a holy man
Preachin’ from a hill
I’ve seen him doing miracles
I know that they are real
He’s healing all the blind men
The lepers and the lame
And driving out demons
And Jesus is his name

He fed five thousand people
With five small loaves of bread
Two fish was all the meat they had
But everyone was fed
He changed the water into wine
Just like his mama said to do

I wonder if this man can change me too.
I see him when he’s teaching
And I ask him to
Tell me if I want eternal life
What good thing must I do?
I’ve followed the commandments
The large ones and the small
He says take your possessions
And sell them one and all
Now I’m a very rich man
But now I’m also sad
Because the gift that Jesus gives
Could not be bought with all I had

He fed four thousand people
With seven loaves of bread
A few small fish was all the meat they had
But everyone was fed
He changed the water into wine
Just like his mama said to do
I wonder if this man can change me too.

And as often as we gather
In his name we still are fed
‘Cause his blood is the wine
And his body is the bread

He changed the water into wine
He changed the water into wine
He changed the water into wine
Just like his mama said to do
I wonder if this man can change me too

Wild Man In The Desert

Well, you might have heard some rumors
And I don’t know what they said
But there’s a wild man in the desert
Pourin’ water on people’s heads
You need to go and see him
No matter what else you do
‘Cause he’s filled with the Holy Spirit
And the spirit of Elijah too
I know because I’ve seen him
And what the angel Gabriel said
About the wild man in the desert
Pourin’ water on people’s heads

His dad was Zechariah
His mama was Lizzie Lou
And Johnny Boy was born to them
When they were about a hundred and two
He moved into the desert
To a little ramshackle shed
Until he started preachin’
And pourin’ water on people’s heads

And when he started preachin’
Folks would stop and stare
At his belt made out of leather
His clothes of camel’s hair
He’d never take a taste of wine
Or any fermented drink
But when a guy eats bugs and honey
It’ll make you stop and think
That he is just a crazy fool
Standin’ in a river bed
This wild man in the desert
Pourin’ water on people’s heads

We thought that when he started to talk
We’d seen the promised day
That Johnny Boy was the Messiah
But this is what he had to say:
There’s a man that’s comin’ after me
More powerful than I
And the thongs of His sandals
I’m not worthy to untie
I’ll baptize you with water but
You might as well take a shower
‘Cause He’ll baptize you with the Holy Spirit
He’ll baptize you with fire

Elisha’s Bones

It was early spring
It was the time when kings
Would get up and leave their thrones
They would go out and fight
And the Moabites
Went to the place where they buried Elisha’s bones
The place where they buried Elisha’s bones
The place where they buried Elisha’s bones
The place where they buried Elisha’s bones

The Israelites cried
When their best man died
While they were far away from home
They couldn’t carry him
So they’d just bury him
In the place where they buried Elisha’s bones
The place where they buried Elisha’s bones
The place where they buried Elisha’s bones
The place where they buried Elisha’s bones

When the Moabite clan
Came into the land
There was no time to dig a hole
So they put him down
In a hole that they found
It was the tomb where they buried Elisha’s bones
The tomb where they buried Elisha’s bones
The tomb where they buried Elisha’s bones
The tomb where they buried Elisha’s bones

When he came into contact
With the bones of the prophet
It was a site to behold
The Israelites said
The man rose from the dead
In the place where they buried Elisha’s bones
The place where they buried Elisha’s bones
The place where they buried Elisha’s bones
The place where they buried Elisha’s bones

The Israelites
Were blessed by that sight
But more blessed are ones we’ve known
That don’t have to see
And don’t have to be
In the place where they buried Elisha’s bones
The place where they buried Elisha’s bones
The place where they buried Elisha’s bones
The place where they buried Elisha’s bones

The Prodigal Son

Brothers by blood and brothers by faith
But as different as two men can be
Bound by a father, separated by faith
And differences wide as the sea
One makes a sacrifice pleasing to God
The other just gives what he can
If you tell me which one is the Prodigal Son
I’ll tell you which one that I am
I’ll tell you which one that I am

I squandered the fortune that I took from my dad
Now I’m headed for home as a pauper
But my father greets me with a hug and a kiss
He is running, the air fills with laughter
I say “I’ve sinned against heaven and sinned against you
I’m not worthy to be called your son
But I’m tired and I’m hungry, I’m starving to death
Please forgive me for what I have done.”
He brought me some sandals, a ring and a robe
Gave a feast and invited a crowd
Said “My son who was dead is alive again
He was lost, but now he is found.”

I come home for work to music and dancing
And a feast for an ungrateful brother
Well I know where he’s been and I will not go in
Even at the request of my Father
I say, “I’ve slaved and I’ve toiled
And I’ve done what I’m told
But it doesn’t pay off in the end
For my no account brother you kill the fat calf
But you won’t spare a goat for me and my friends.”
He said, “All that I have has always been yours
You are always with me and around
But my son who was dead is alive again
He was lost but now he is found.”

One is alive, happy and free
Secure in the love of his Father
The other is empty, lonely and sad
And longs for the life of his brother
One makes a sacrifice pleasing to God
The other just gives what he can
If you tell me which one is the Prodigal Son
I’ll tell you which one that I am
I’ll tell you which one that I am

Bound For Glory

We’re on a wagon train that’s bound for glory
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on
We’re on a wagon train that’s bound for glory
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on
God freed us from ol’ Pharaoh’s hands
And he’s leading us to the Promised Land
We’re on a wagon train that’s bound for glory
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on

Even when he led us to the Red Sea
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on
Even when he led us to the Red Sea
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on
He opened a path – big and wide
And we walked right over to the other side
Even when he led us to the Red Sea
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on

Even when we’re hungry and we think we’ll die
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on
Even when we’re hungry and we think we’ll die
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on
He gave us all the bread we need
It tastes like honey and coriander seed
Even when we’re hungry and we think we’ll die
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on

Even when our journey seems too long
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on
Even when our journey seems too long
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on
For forty years we’ll wander there
But neither our clothes nor sandals will wear
Even when our journey seems too long
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on

Even when we disobey
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on
Even when we disobey
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on
It doesn’t matter what we do
He’s full of love and forgiveness too
Even when we disobey
We’ve got to keep it a-traveling on

Job

Tell me Satan where have you been?
Where’ve you been?
Where’ve you been?
Tell me Satan where have you been?
Where’ve you been tonight?
I’ve been roamin’ the earth
To and fro
To and fro
To and fro
I’ve been roamin’ the earth
To and fro
To and fro tonight
I’ve been walkin’ the earth
Up and down
Up and down
Up and down
I’ve been walkin’ the earth
Up and down
Up and down tonight

You tell me about this man named Job that’s so in love with you
But you built a hedge of protection around him, so what else would he do?
He’s got great big herds, a great big house and a great big family
But let me touch all that he has and I know he’ll turn to me.
“All he has is in your power” is what the Lord God said
“Do what you want with all he’s got, but don’t touch a hair on his head.”
I took his herd, took his house, and took his family too
Then I stepped back and waited a while just to see what Job would do.
He shaved his head, fell to pray and then he ripped his clothes
And said “Naked is how I came in this world; I guess that’s how I’ll go.”

You keep bragging about this man named Job, you say he loves you so
But as long as you protect his skin, where else would he go?
Hear me Lord, reach out your hand and touch his flesh and bone
And I know that Job will curse your face and then you’ll change your tone
“I’m puttin’ Job in your hands” is what the Lord God said.
Do whatever you want with him, just don’t make him dead
I covered Job with painful sores that went from toe to head
He scraped himself with a broken pot and poured ashes on his head
His wife said, “The pride you have is so dear, must I ask you why
You hold on tight and you won’t let go. You should curse your God and die.”
He said, “Woman you know you sound like a fool; don’t you think we should
Receive the evil from God’s hand just like we get the good

Well he had an argument with his friends that went on way too long
And he had a lot of questions for God but that’s another song
Now Job’s not a very patient man but he’s faithful as can be
‘Cause he never once cursed his God and he never turned to me
God set Job up in a brand new home and gave him back his health
He gave old Job a new set of kids. Increased his herds and wealth
Now you might think that since I failed there’s nothing more to do
But I’m looking around for someone else. I might just look at you

Tell me Satan where are you?
Where are you?
Where are you?
Tell me Satan where are you?
Where are you tonight?
I’m roamin’ the earth
To and fro
To and fro
To and fro
I’m roamin’ the earth
To and fro
To and fro tonight
I’m walkin’ the earth
Up and down
Up and down
Up and down
I’m walkin’ the earth
Up and down
Up and down tonight

A Little Faith

Samuel was a prophet and a man of God
He’d anointed Saul as king
God sent him to anoint a new chosen one
When Saul started doin’ his own thing
Samuel found David in the house of Jesse
And he poured some oil on his head
He proclaimed that little David was the Israelite king
And when he blessed him this is what he said

You can have the strength to kill a lion or a bear
When they’re comin’ after your sheep
And you can sing a song and play music on a harp
To put an angry king to sleep
You’ll kill a great big giant with a little bitty stone
If you hit him in the right place
And if you just have a little faith

Goliath was a giant and a Philistine
And he stood about ten feet tall
David was a shepherd from Bethlehem
Good lookin’ young and small
Goliath said the Israelites would serve his folks
When he crushed their best man dead
When David volunteered to fight this great big man
This is what David said:

You know I have the strength to kill a lion or a bear
When they’re comin’ after my sheep
And I can sing a song and play music on a harp
To put an angry king to sleep
I’ll kill a great big giant with a little bitty stone
If I hit him in the right place
And if I just have a little faith

Goliath came to battle in a bunch of armor
Had a great big spear and a sword
David had a slingshot and five smooth stones
But he fought in the name of the Lord
Goliath hit the ground from a shot between in the eyes
David borrowed a sword
And cut off his head
Now everybody’s singin’ ‘bout little bitty David
And this is what the people said:

David has the strength to kill a lion or a bear
When they’re comin’ after his sheep
And he can sing a song and play music on a harp
To put an angry king to sleep
He killed a great big giant with a little bitty stone
When he hit him in the right place
And it just took a little faith

Yes, you can have the strength to kill a lion or a bear
When they’re comin’ after your sheep
And you can sing a song and play music on a harp
To put an angry king to sleep
You’ll kill a great big giant with a little bitty stone
If you hit him in the right place
And if you just have a little faith

Found A Penny

Found a penny on the ground today
Found a penny on the street
Found a penny on the road today
In the dirt next to my feet
Now a penny’s not much money
And I could have left it there
And I know whoever lost it
Probably doesn’t even care
That I put it in my pocket
And I’m keeping it with me
‘Cause sometimes you need a penny
In my pocket’s where it’ll be
Found a penny on the ground today
Found a penny

Gave a penny at the church today
Even though I came in late
Put a penny on the altar
Snuck a penny in the plate
Now a penny’s not much money
And there’s nothing they can’t do
‘Cause they didn’t have my penny
So I could have kept it too
It will likely go unnoticed
‘Cause a penny’s not a lot
But sometimes you give a penny
When a penny’s all you’ve got
Gave a penny at the church today
Gave a penny
