Die For You
Forty days Forty nights Moses on a hill Ten Commandments And a bunch of laws Telling us God’s will Some laws are about what’s right and wrong; Some laws about being a Jew But there are so many laws that you can’t keep them all You need something to die for you Something to die for you Something to die for you Something to die for you Something to die for you To obey the law, you have to be real good And you have to be real nice And to obey the law, every once in a while You have to offer a sacrifice An animal that’s healthy and clean Any animal won’t do An animal to take your place You need something to die for you Something to die for you Something to die for you Something to die for you Something to die for you Good and bad Right and wrong Listening to God’s call Do this Don’t do that Following God’s law When you look at me you see all my faults What I did and didn’t do Hope you realize that everybody sins You need something to die for you Something to die for you Something to die for you Something to die for you Something to die for you Holy priest stands in your place Offering again and again What he does doesn’t matter because It won’t take away your sin A perfect gift A holy lamb Is the only thing that will do So God will to remember Your sins no more You need Jesus to die for you Jesus to die for you Jesus to die for you Jesus to die for you Jesus to die for you Art Wheeler © 2018
Mariam’s Song
Now Pharaoh set us Israelites free Just as God foretold He got tired of Moses and you and me And his people gave us silver and gold We grabbed our things and we left real late Before Pharaoh changed his mind We left so fast that the bread we ate Didn’t even have time to rise Oh no! What do I see? Pharaoh’s chariots coming after me. Praise the Lord, Mighty is He The horse and the rider drowned in the Red Sea So we went through the wilderness to the Red Sea Then Pharaoh changed his mind He came after Moses and you and me With the best men he could find We wonder why God brought us there We’d rather die where we started Then Moses raised his staff in the air And the Red Sea waters parted Oh no! What do I see? Pharaoh’s chariots coming after me. Praise the Lord, Mighty is He The horse and the rider drowned in the Red Sea The surging waters stood long and tall Held safely by God’s hand And we went right between those water walls Walking on dry land Pharaoh’s horses and men and chariots followed But their wheels came off in the mud And Moses raised his staff and the Red Sea swallowed Pharaoh’s army in a rising flood Oh no! What do I see? Pharaoh’s chariots coming after me. Praise the Lord, Mighty is He The horse and the rider drowned in the Red Sea Now God didn’t save us because we were good More sinners here than saints And most of the time we don’t do what we should Full of protests and complaints The Lord’s our strength and our defense I’m giving God the glory He’s forgiven me so it just makes sense To tell everyone his story Oh no! What do I see? Pharaoh’s chariots coming after me. Praise the Lord, Mighty is He The horse and the rider drowned in the Red Sea Art Wheeler © 2018
Speaking In Tongues
What will they think when you tell them that you have been washed in the Blood of the Lamb? And what will they think when you tell them the name for you’re God is I AM THAT I AM? What will they think when you give them some bread and you call it the Body of Christ? And give them some juice that you tell them is really the blood that your Lord sacrificed? You think you'll draw people to follow your Jesus by telling them laws and commands Praying in public but Speaking in tongues that nobody else understands You say that you’re filled with the Holy Ghost spirit, bound for the Promised Land You say that you’re sanctified, justified, glorified, words that they don’t understand They think that the Bible you say that you follow is something that stays on your shelf And they think it's just rules that you say they should follow that you cannot follow yourself You think you'll draw people to follow your Jesus by telling them laws and commands Praying in public but Speaking in tongues that nobody else understands You say that a virgin gave birth to a son and a man was raised from the dead You tell them a serpent and donkey can speak and tell them the words that they said A bush that is burning but not burning up and Jesus can walk on the sea Fantastic yarns and fairy tale stories that you would not usually believe You think you'll draw people to follow your Jesus by telling them laws and commands Praying in public but Speaking in tongues that nobody else understands Your bread and your wine might mean something to you but it’s something that they might not know You sound like a cannibal clinging to rituals abandoned by most long ago Stories of miracles, things supernatural, sometimes are hard to believe You sound just like charlatans, rascals and cheats. Imposters with tricks up their sleeve Reach for the people that need God the most and go to the places they go Treat them with kindness, love and respect. Make sure you use words that they know Tell them the difference God makes in your life especially the times that you fall Tell them the miracles in your own life, and why you respond to God’s call You think you'll draw people to follow your Jesus by telling them laws and commands Praying in public but Speaking in tongues that nobody else understands Art Wheeler © 2018

Crusin’ For A Brusin’ From The Lord
I’m hurt; full of anger And now my life’s in danger ‘Cause my anger is directed at the Lord ‘Cause I don’t like His plannin’ So now I’ll go out tannin’ And lay here in this desert ‘till I die But a vine grew up, big and leafy And gave me shade while I was sleepy And gave me comfort but I don’t know why Now a worm ate all my shade away And I’m blamin’ God for my bad day I’m cruisin’ for a bruisin’ from the Lord I’m cruisin’ for a bruisin’ Because while I was snoozin’ The Lord rained down his blessings upon me My body he was shadin’ I’m blessed but I’m not praisin’ I’m cruisin’ for a bruisin’ from the Lord Why did I ever bother To listen to the Father Or follow the direction of the Lord? If those people needed savin’ He could do it all with a little hand wavin’ He don’t need me to do His dirty work Now you might think that I am crazy A little self-centered, or maybe lazy To be mad at God, I’d have to be a jerk But my skin is dry, it burns and itches Got a little too big for my britches I’m cruisin’ for a bruisin’ from the Lord I’m cruisin’ for a bruisin’ Because while I was snoozin’ The Lord rained down his blessings upon me My body he was shadin’ I’m blessed but I’m not praisin’ I’m cruisin’ for a bruisin’ from the Lord Art Wheeler © 2018
Neighbor
Love the Lord God with all your heart Love the Lord God with all your soul With all your strength and with all your mind And your neighbor as yourself I was beat by robbers And they took all that I had Stripped of clothes and left for dead Will someone come help me? That man on the road appears to be dead Someone should check on him But now is the time for my priestly duties I will pass on the other side Since I am descended from the house of Levi I always keep myself clean That man on the road just might be dead I will pass on the other side I am a Samaritan But I’ll take you to an inn Where they’ll dress and feed you, tend your wounds And I’ll pay for everything Art Wheeler © 2018
Seven Times Seven Times Seventy-Seven
I stand here beside you with my hand open wide For the money that I want today So why do I think that I’m better than you When we both owe debts that we cannot repay My Master said “Sell him and his family too To pay for the debt that he owes.” I fell to my knees and pleaded for mercy He canceled my debt and then let me go So to stand here and choke you and demand all my money Just isn’t the right thing to do What good’s the forgiveness that’s given to me If I cannot share it with you? The debt you owe me is incredibly small While my debt would fill up the heavens How many times do I need to forgive? Seven times seven times seventy-seven My sin’s like a millstone that hangs ‘round my neck To drown me when thrown in the sea I’m running away like a little lost sheep Thinking of no one but me The debt you owe me, I’ll never forget To deny that would make me a liar But when my Master found out that I called your account His anger with me raged like fire He said “You should have had mercy like I had with you But greed is all you ever showed” Then He sent me to jail to be tortured until I paid everything that I owed Whatever I bind or I loose here on earth Will be bound or loosened in heaven How many times do I need to forgive? Seven times seven times seventy-seven Forgive when you’re happy, forgive when you’re sad Forgive them and try to show love Forgive when you’re angry, forgive when you’re mad Forgive like your Father above Forgive those you love, forgive those you hate Forgive when there’s no hope at all Forgive those that love you, forgive those that hate you Forgive both the large and the small Forgive when you’re up, forgive when you’re down Forgive both the man and the sin Forgive when the pain you feel hurts you the most Forgive when they hurt you again Forgive when you struggle, forgive when you cry Forgive when you want to get even How many times do I need to forgive? Seven times seven times seventy-seven Art Wheeler © 2018
Isaiah 11
A shoot will come up From the stump of Jesse; From his roots a Branch that will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest upon him Of wisdom and understanding, Of counsel and power, And the knowledge and the fear of the LORD He will not judge by What he sees with his eyes, Or decide by what he hears with his ears; But with righteousness He will judge the needy, With justice give decisions For the poor of the earth. And delight in the fear of the LORD. With the rod of his mouth He will strike the earth With the breath of his lips he’ll slay the wicked. Righteousness will be The belt that he wears and faithfulness the sash around his waist. The wolf and the LAMB will live together The leopard will lie down with the goat, The calf and the lion and the yearling will be together; And all will be lead by a child Yes and all will be lead by a child In that day the Root of Jesse Will stand as a banner for all The nations will rally Rally to him And his place of rest will be glorious. In that day The LORD will reach his hand out To reclaim the remnant his people And he will raise A banner for the nations And gather all the exiles Assemble scattered people From all four corners of the earth. A shoot will come up From the stump of Jesse; From his roots a Branch that will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest upon him Of wisdom and understanding, Of counsel and power, And the knowledge and the fear of the LORD Art Wheeler © 2018
A Cave in Bethlehem
There’s a cow that’s in the corner There’s a donkey in a stall There’s a bucket filled with water Goats and chickens ‘round it all There’s a manger filled with hay And a torch to light the way Since I have no room I’ll let you stay In this cave in Bethlehem In a cave in Bethlehem You should call us when you need us Since your wife is very near To the time to have her baby When you call us, we’ll be here To keep the manger filled with hay Where the newborn child can lay So you get some rest here while you stay In this cave in Bethlehem In a cave in Bethlehem Now the shepherds in the doorway Come from fields around the town Sent by messengers from heaven To the baby that they found In the manger filled with hay And the shepherds bow and say That a Savior’s born to us this day In this cave in Bethlehem In a cave in Bethlehem Art Wheeler © 2018
Wrestle With The Angels
I wrestled with my brother in the womb to wake my mother every morn And I grabbed at his heal to make him stumble from the moment he was born I left my home to go live with my mother’s family when my mother said That my brother was so full of hurt and anger that he wished that I was dead Because I bought my brother’s birthright with some stew And I stole my father’s blessing from him too I take advantage when I deal with other men And I wrestle with the angels now and then 14 years of labor was my payment for my uncle’s daughters’ hands And for flocks as wages, I spent 6 more years at his command My wages were the speckled sheep that all grew up to be so big and strong And the flocks that he was left with are all weak so now he thinks I did him wrong Because I bought my brother’s birthright with some stew And I stole my father’s blessing from him too I take advantage when I deal with other men And I wrestle with the angels now and then I send messengers to tell my brother that I’m coming back to see him then They return and say he’s coming out to meet me and he has 400 men I send gifts to try and earn his favor because I don’t know what he’s going to do But he welcomes me with opened arms because the Lord saw fit to bless him too Well I bought my brother’s birthright with some stew And I stole my father’s blessing from him too I take advantage when I deal with other men And I wrestle with the angels now and then Art Wheeler © 2018
