This year marks the seventh year that my wife has bought me a birthday gift for every day of March, my birth month.  As is my tradition, I share this list of gifts and thank my wife for generosity.  She wanted to do a big party this year to celebrate a noteworthy number of years (60).  I told her that I didn’t want to have a party, instead I wanted a Diamond Jubilee.  What I really wanted a chance to get to spend time with family and friends.  The Diamond Jubilee was light on pomp and circumstance, heavy on fun.  Thanks to everyone who made turning 60 special.

I like to grill food. I prefer grilling on a charcoal grill.  My go-to grill is a Weber Kettle grill. They are relatively inexpensive but versatile.  One of the features of the Weber Kettle is that it has options for accessories that they refer to as their Gourmet Grilling System.  The heart of this system is the cooking grate that has a removable center where you can insert a variety optional cooking surfaces like, chicken roasting pans, a griddle, and a wok.  One of our family’s favorite inserts is a pizza stone. We set up an assembly line at the grill to make pizzas with a variety of toppings to each person’s taste.

Not every birth makes front page news but mine did.  My dad worked for The Crockett Times, the county newspaper where we lived. Because he worked there when I was born, the newspaper saw fit to run my birth announcement on the front page. As you can see above, there was nothing special about the announcement or anything to make it stand out from any other birth announcement that might run in the paper.  I’m not a prince or the member of one of the more influential families of Crockett County.  Just the kid of one of the paper employees that was well liked by the boss.

Several years ago, my wife started a tradition of giving me a gift for every day of my birth month.  I keep a list of these gifts and usually share them here. Here is the list from this year with some explanations included for some items.

This is the 5th March that my wife has given me a birthday gift every day of my birthday month.  The main difference in this year’s celebration from previous ones was the COVID-19 pandemic coming into full swing in the middle of the month.  Plans for spring break travel and a party with lots of friends gave way to smaller celebrations, staying at home and tightening the circle of people I regularly see.  The daily gift gave some consistency to a year where everything is changing every day.

I would like to use this post as an opportunity to say thanks to my wife and document this year’s gifts.

This March, my wife helped me celebrate my birthday every day during the month.  My birthday is on the 23rd but she gave me a gift every day.  For several years, I have declared that I was celebrating my birthday all month but this year and the previous 2 years, she has given me a gift every day.  This is my opportunity to say thanks to her and document this year’s gifts
