Jackie Fargo Vs. Al Greene

When I was growing up, I was a big fan of professional wrestling.  I watched the wrestling program from Memphis every Saturday morning.  At that time, professional wrestling was divided into territories and Memphis was one of the most successful areas.  The star of Memphis wrestling was Fabulous Jackie Fargo.  He was known for his blonde hair, his signature “Fargo Strut”, and calling everyone “pally”.  Over the years he had wrestled with several partners including Don Fargo (supposedly his brother, but actually a wrestler named Don Kalt) and his real brother Sonny, who went by the names “Roughhouse” and “Nuthouse”.

One of my favorite memories of wrestling at this time involves a feud with a wrestler named Al Greene. Al was one of the best “bad guys” at the time.  He had wrestled with his brother Don as a tag team.  Al was moving to a role as a singles wrestler and the feud with Fargo was a natural.  One Saturday morning, Al was having his interview time and he started calling out Jackie Fargo and his family.  He said “Jackie Fargo! You are Yellow!  Your whole family is yellow!  Your brother Don is yellow, your brother Nuthouse is yellow, and your daddy is yellow!” Soon after this interview, they went to a commercial.  When they came back from the commercial, Fargo was already at the interview table and was crying.  He shouted, “Al Greene, my daddy was a good man and now he’s dead! You don’t talk like that about my daddy!”  He went on like this for a while until Al Greene came out from the dressing room.  Al took the microphone, looked Fargo in the eye and said, “Jackie Fargo, your dead daddy is yellow.”  Mayhem ensued.  That line is one of the best ones I’ve ever heard on a wrestling program.
